1 min readReclining against and capping the Red Hill in the northwest of Lhasa, the world famous coverin monastery-like palace, the Potala Palace, more than 3, 700 metres above sea level, covering a total area of 360,000 square meters, was the religious and political centre of old Tibet and the winter palace of the Dalai Lamas. The palace is more than 117 meters high, 360 metres wide, and has thirteen floors, occupying a building space of 130, 000 square meters.
It is composed of the White Palace and Red Palace for secular use and religious use,respectively. Consisting of various palaces, chambers a Buddhist official seminary,hallways, murals, country yards, Dharma Cave and the Saint’s Chapel, Potala is one of the grandest palaces in the world.
