4 min readI believe many of us will emerge in your mind the pictures of boundless ocean，blue sky，soft beaches and coconut trees when we refer to Hainan Island.It’s beyond our imaginations that the nature also endows Hainan Island with unique and valuable tropical forest resources.Today，we are going to visit Jianfengling National Forest Park and I d like to introduce it to you briefly.
Jianfengling National Forest Park is located in the southwest of Hainan Island，cross Dongfang City and Ledong City，and the total area of this park is 447 square kilometers.It is the biggest and also best-preserved assemble primitive tropical rainforest in China so far.In 1992，it was approved that a park characterized by tropical rainforests will be established in China.There are varieties of animals and plants in Jianfengling National Forest Park，which is the representation of tropical forests in China，of which there are above 2，800 species of plants that account for 8%in our country，85%in Hainan Province.And there are more than 80 species of rare tropical trees，and more than 4，300 species of animals，among which 400 species of butterflies and 215 species of birds have flourished there ever since. National protected animals such as black crested gibbon, clouded leopard, Hainan Eld’s deer and grey peacock pheasant(Polyplectron bicalcaratum) also live here. The park is deserved to have the reputation of “species’ genbank”,”the paradise of birds”and “the bank of species”by the specialists from the UN.
Standing on the peak of the park, you can look out at the tier upon tier of mountains and a variety of plants cluster to grow against each other. In the air, the verdant and tall trees block blue sky, and mottled sunshine sprinkle over the soil through the little gap of leaves. Under the tree, countless epiphytes are hanging upside down and swaying in the wind. On the ground, the branches of roots twine together like nets, with thick fallen leaves scattered around the ground. What a wonderful rainforest scenery it is! Here, you can fully experience the glamour of tropical rainforests, and you will be amazed at the nature from deep of your heart. There are many precious and rare plants. TakeSuoluo as an example, it is an endangered vegetation species which once grew in the times of dinosaurs, and now most of them have turned into coal already, but in this park,a few of them survived. It is also honored as the valuable living fossil”in the vegetation field. Hainan cephalotaxus sinensis, also calledred shell pine, belongs to China’s first grade state protection vegetation. Some anticancer substance can be extracted from its roots and rinds. It is amazing that in the international market, the price of red shell pine is higher even than the price of gold.
The “air garden”,”plants hanging”,”woodsy tree”and”huge tabular roots”are very unique sceneries in this tropical rainforest. Air garden is formed when the seeds of orchid or fern are scattered around the branches of trees by bird. Then, after the seeds strike root, it will form a very beautiful botanical garden in the air sooner or later.”Plants hanging”exit in rainforest because of the law of the jungle. The main killer is banyan, with aerial roots hanging, and those aerial roots are lethal weapons in “plants hanging”because once they tangle with a tree, they would definitely kill them through hundreds of years. The protagonist of “woodsy tree”is also banyan. Its aerial roots root in the soil directly with space permitting, and finally saplings sprout. One of the most famous banyans can be 34 meters high, and the crown of this banyan is as large as half of the football field. It is the typical example of “woodsy tree” “High tabular roots”means some roots of trees are just look like a huge board standing still on the ground. Aren’t those views attractive?
In Jianfengling National Forest Park，heaven pool is a scenic spot that youcan’t miss.Located east of the black hill of Jianfengling Hilit is a basin surrounded by lots of hills.The clouds floating around heaven pool all the day makes it looks like a fairyland，and the climate here is very pleasant whichmakes it known as a famous summer resort.Another well-known place is calledThree Waterfall，consists of Zijing Waterfall，Longxue Waterfall，and Shihulan Waterfall.The width of Three Waterfall is over 30 meters while the length of it reaches 70 meters.Water drop looks as pearls rolling in the waterfall.It is so fascinating and attractive.A tree deemed as”The Magical Tree”by the local people is also worth visiting，and it looks like a deer looking forward to something and wanting to run freely，so this tree is also called “Deer Tree” There are countless beautiful views in this park for us to enjoy and appreciate；however，because time is limited，I can’t introduce all of them to you one by one.It’s your turn to grab the time to start the amazing tropical forest tour.Have a good day and thank you！
