Jingshan Park
1 min readIt is an artificial hill, consisting of 5 individual peaks and on the top of each peak there is an elaborate pavilion. Each pavilion used to hold a copper Buddha statue symbolizing one of the 5 kinds of tastes:sour, bitter, sweet, acrid and salty. The Pavilion of Everlasting Spring(wanchun)on the top of the middle hillwas ever the highest point in the city and offers fantastic views of Beijing center. These pavilions served as a gathering place and leisure purposes for the officials. These five peaks also draw the approximate historical axis of central Beijing.
Emperor Chongzhen, the last emperor of the Ming Dynasty, committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree here in 1644.Once you walk into the front gate of the park, you can see the Qiwang Pavilion surrounded by vigorous green cypresses, which was originally a place for emperors to worship the memorial tablet of Confucius.
