The different ethnic groups in Guangxi have developed a value of collective effort and mutual assistance in daily work and life for example, the Zhuang people have a work tradition calledda beigong'(backup assistance), requiring all villagers in the busy season to help families short of labor with planting and harvesting. The Dong, Yao and Miao peoples have a tradition in hunting thatwhoever spots the animal gets share. Mutual assistance is common whether in house building, weddings or funerals -as evidenced in the adage a family in need of assistance always finds helping hands; a person fallen into difficulties always receives supporting aid.
