Lotus and Crane Rectangular Hu,a Distinctive and Elaborate Bronze ware

The lotus and Crane Rectangular Hu is large.On its cover decorated with lwo layers of openwork lotus petals stands a fluttering and singing crane.The jar’s four sides are mainly decorated with coiled dragons.While a big dragon-shaped ear is on each flank of the jar,a flying dragon is cast on each corner of its belly.Two lying tigers lie under the circular leg to support the vessel.

Bronze casting skills developed rapidly in the Spring and Autumn Period.Besides the great inventions like lost-wax method.the achievement of bronze casting skills also included the inheritance of excellent traditional techniques such as separate casting method.which was adopted in the making of the crane,the two dragon-shaped ears and the main body of the jar.The vessel displays superb casting skills and reflects the portraiture trend of bronze animal shapes.
