1 min readBenxi is another heavy steel and coal manufacturing city that is now working hard to promote and develop large geological resources for tourism. With large scenic mountain and water areas, Benxi is home to one of China’s most interesting national parks, the Benxi Water Cave. The Guanmenshan National Forest Park and the man-made reservoir are also big attractions that have earned high-level recognition in China’s tourism industry. Also, from a cultural viewpoint Benxi is an interesting place to visit as it is the home to two large Manchu ethnic group autonomous counties.
The Benxi Water Cave is a highly prized water filled network of caves with forests stalactites and stalagmites. Boat trips into the cave run regularly and it is the main tourism draw for the area. Nearby the cave is the Wenquan Temple built over the sight where Emperor Nurhachi, the first Qing Dynasty emperor, was said to bathe. Benxi is just south of Shenyang making it an excellent day trip from the capital.
