Main Ecological Projects
1 min readXinjiang’s ecological systems can be classified into three types,i.e. the mountain ecological system, the desert ecological system and the oasis ecological system. The mountain ecological system is mainly distributed on the Altai Mountains, Tianshan Mountains and Kunlun Mountains, the desert ecological system is mainly distributed in the areas of Xinjiang’s north and south desert systems, and the oasis ecological system is mainly distributed in various areas and prefectures in the south of Xinjiang.
In 1996, the autonomous region began to launch multiple ecological development and environmental improvement projects successively. In 1997,”giving priority to ecological benefits”was clearly put forward, and Opinions on Accelerating the Development of Forestry in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region was promulgated. In 2003, the autonomous region promulgated the “Special Plan on Key Ecological Development and Environmental Improvement Projects”and began to implement nine ecological projects, ie.
the natural mountainous forest conservation project, the Gurbantunggut Desert and Taklamakan Desert project, the desert prevention and transformation project, the water-saving irrigation project, the Ebinur Lake region ecological protection and improvement project, the ecological and environmental monitoring network development project, the Bostan Lake water environment protection and ecological restoration project(in Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture in the south of Xin jiang), the wildlife protection project and the Urumqi comprehensive air pollution control project. Through implementation of thenine ecological projects in recent years, the ecological environments of Xinjiang’s areas and river basins improved notably.
