Memorial Hall of the August 1 Nanchang Uprising
2 min readWelcome to Nanchang,the Heroic City!Today we are visiting the Memorial Hall of the August 1 Nanchang Uprising.It was one of the most important uprisings in Chinese revolutionary history,because it marked the beginning of the armed struggle against the Kuomin Tang reactionaries,which is led by the Communist Party.On that day the people’s army was born,so August 1st is the Army Day.
Situated in the middle part of Zhongshan Road,the Former Site of General Headquarters of the August 1 Nanchang Uprising were Jiangxi Grand Hotel,a five-storey building.In late July 1927,the troops that were to participate in the uprising rented the entire hotel,altogether 96 rooms.They held a meeting in Xiqing Hall.
The Front Committee of the Communist Party of China was established at the meeting and Zhou Enlai(1898-1976)was elected as the secretary of the commitee.As the headquarters of the uprising,the leaders held a few more meetings here.In 1957,it was converted into the August 1 Nanchang Uprising Museum.The late Marshal Chen Yi(1901-1972)wrote an inscription for the museum,which was gold-plated on the tablet of the museum..The Assembly Hall,namely,the former Xiqing Hall,the room where Zhou Enlai worked and rested,the office of Lin Boqu(1885-1960),and the bedroom as well,the office for the Military Staff Regiment,some rooms for the Guard Company and the Health Office are all open to the visitors.Many historical documents,photographs,charts,drawings and materials are on show on the first and second floors of the building.
