Miao’s Reflected in Miao Embroidery

We insist on the opinion that in the past embroidering for Miao like practicing Zen, which assured the top quality of the embroider work. There are many taboos for the Miaos when they are going to embroider. Not when the baby is crying, not when the frogs clicking, not when hands soaked with sweat, etc.In fact, not when there is any outside diversification of attention. The Miaos never embroider on the clothing directly and they design piece of cloth on which to embroider and it is sewn onto the clothing at the proper place, after finishing the embroidery.

The order is that the two symmetrical pieces will be embroidered simultaneously to guarantee the color, patter and techniques utilized are the same. Interestingly enough is that when the work is too complicated and too time consuming, there will be division of work among the female members of the family .

That is the reason why we notice there are influences of several persons, the grandma, the mom and the daughter herself as each one used slightly different skills in embroidering densities and the intensity of the silk line stretching. There are even such cases that the time span is too long to have the same color silk bundles and the colors of embroidery on one costume are slightly different.
