Mount Sanqing
3 min readWelcome to Mount Sanqing. Mount Sanqing is the seventh of the World Nature Heritages in China, the only one in Jiangxi. It is located in the northeast of Shangrao, Jiangxi Province. It is honored as “the NO.1 immortal mountain and the only Taoist paradise in the world”. As the highest peak, Yujing peak is 1816.9 meters above sea level. The mountain gets its name because Yujing, Yuhua and Yuxu peaks are like three qing that are Yuqing, Shangqing and Taiqing sitting abovethe range. After 1400 million years of geology movement, it has formed the matchless granite peak group landscape. Peculiar stones, together with ancient trees and famousflowers, streams and waterfalls, cloud sea and fog billow are called the four wonders in nature.
Mount Sanqing is famous for its natural landscape and takes the Taoism cultural landscapes as its characteristic.48 peculiar peaks,52 unusual stones and more than 500 scenic spots have been exploited. In August 1988, it became a national key scenic spot after the sanction of State Council. The total surface area of the scenic spot is 756.6 square kilometers. As the highest peak, Yujing peak is 1816.9 meters above sea level. Paul, the president of the States National Park Foundation, exclaimed with admiration that”Mount Sanqing is one of the rare top quality articles in the world and a treasure of human being”after examining the mountain in August 1997.
Mount Sanqing is the place of practicing asceticism for Taoists through the ages.
It became a place yearned for by celebrities who believe in Neo-Confucianism after Gehong exploited the mountain in the Jin dynasty. Between 873 and 888, Wang Jian, the Prefect of State Xin, visited the north piedmont of the mountain and found the beautiful scenery, so he lived in seclusion with his family after retirement. In the Song dynasty, Mount Sanqing became the Taoist paradise after Wang Lin, Wang Jian’s descendent, contributed money to build Taoist temple. Between 1450 and 1456, Wang Ku, Wang Lin’s descendent, rebuilt the mountain on a large scale.
With the help of Zhan Biyun who was a Taoist priest, the Sanqing Taoism paradise took shape. As a result, Mount Sanqing is praised as”a Taoism Museum in the open air”.
There are abundant natural resources and plentiful scenic spots in Mount Sanging. The arrangement of the landscape has a feature of “dangerous in the east,peculiar in the west，unique in the south and elegant in the north”.Mount Sanging covers nine main scenic zones:Nanqing Park，Longevity Park，West Seashore，Entrance of Three Caves，Stone Drum Ridge，Sanqing Temple，Yujing Peak，Xihua Terrace and Yulin Temple.Among these nine scenic areas，there are ten well-known wonders:Spring Goddess，Python Going Out of Mountain，Monkey King Presenting aTreasure，Jade Maiden Opening Arms，Taoist Priest Worshipping the Moon，Guanyin Enjoying Music，Ge Hong Presenting Pills，Immortal Dragon Playing with Pine，Three dragons Coming Out of Sea and Pulao Crying to Sky.Look，we are in the Nanqing Park now.It is one of the most spectacular natural landscapes with an elevation of 1577 meters.It has a wide range of peaks and many beautiful places，spreading from Youxian Valley to Watching Clouds Terrace，including Yixiantian（a thread’s breadth to the sky），Yuqing Terrace and Yuhuang Peak.In this spot，there are peculiar peaks，delicate rocks and grand valleys.There are also vast cloud seas，many rare flowers and trees and several hundreds square kilometers azalea groves.In Yuhuang Peak，you can watch beautiful clouds of sunset；while in Yuqing terrace，you can see generous sunrise with a good look.There goes Python Coming Out of Mountain.It is more than 1200 meters above sea level with a height of 128 meters.It is a huge granite stone pillar formed by weathering and gravitational force.Although there are several cracks in its body，it still keeps standing like a giant after billions.of years of wind and rain.The top of it is flat and it is very thin in the neck with adiameter of only seven meters.It looks exactly like a python coming out of mountain and soaring to the sky.
