2 min readThe Ordikam is one of the traditional games of the Uygur people. there is a note about the game in the Turkic Dictionary: “Ordikam as well as Kulap is the name of the game. The game is rather popular among farmers and the youth in the south area and the east area of Xinjiang.
The game has no fixed requirements on the number of the players. the number of the players usually is 3 to 8. Firstly, the circle with the diameter about 2 meters is drawn on the flat ground, several small pits are dug along the edge boundary of the circle according to the number of the players, and the number of the small pits is one less than the number of the players taking part in the game.
A larger pit is dug in the center of the circle. Before the start of the game, the players firstly draw lots for distributing the small pits around the circle, and the one without obtaining the small pit will be”Malay”(servant Uygur language). The players stand beside respective small pits, holding one stick with the length about 1 meter and the diameter of 4-5 cm, and the servant stands beside the pit in the center of the circle. a batten about 10 cm ong is placed in the pit in the center of the circle. the servant firstly provokes the small batten from the pit by the stick to throw into the small pits around the circle and try to insert the batten into the small pits of the opposite players.
Others standing around the circle will push aside the batten by the stick in hands to guard their small pits. If the small batten is inserted into ones pit, the player guarding the pit will stand beside the pit in the center of the circle to provoke the batten again. this game has a certain function of enhancing the sensitivity and accuracy of the youth.
