Pagoda of the Six Harmonies

1 min read

In AD 970, the Lord of Wuyue State gave orders to build the Pagoda of the Six Harmonies, located beside the Qiantang River on the top of Mount Yuelun in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province, to repress the onrushing tidal water. The name of Six Harmonies has a Buddhist meaning and refers to the six different regulations in Buddhism. The pagoda has thirteen storeys on the outside, but only seven storeys on the inside, forming a pattern of “seven storeys seen and six storeys hidden”. Tourists on the balcony of any storey can look at the picturesque landscape of the Qiantang River.
