Plain Stitch of Miao
1 min readPlain Stitch, is the basic technique of all the embroidery skills and no exception in Miao embroidery.
Its characteristics are single needle with single silk thread to stitch from side to side along the contour stitch by stitch at even density and cover the contour with the colorful silk thread.
Plain Stitch works are usually embroidered according to the patterns or contour that could be paper cut or the drawings on the cloth The embroiderer’s task is to cover the pattern or drawing with the color silk thread. The Plain Stitch works, when the stitches are evenly distributed and clean cut, smooth surfaced and with no intersects of the stitches, will be labeled as fine quality work.
According to the direction of the stitches on the surfaces, Plain Stitch could be classified into horizontal, vertical and slanting.
