Prosperous Ports Better the People’s Life

It is very evident that all the ports surrounding Xinjiang make the people’s life better apart from performing the economic function.

Alataw Pass is a typical example of the port economy driving the local economy. Its contribution to the local economy includes the following aspects. Firstly, it has increased local fiscal revenue. In 2012, Alataw Pass generated total revenue of 238.29 million Yuan, which was a year-on-year increase of 9.31%; it finished local fiscal revenue of 143.49 million Yuan, which was a year-on-year increase of 10.29%.

Secondly, the tertiary industry is thriving in the port. The number of privately and individually owned businesses in the port has increased from 25 in 1999 to over a thousand in 2012. The catering and hotel industries are developing rapidly. Thirdly, green and clean energy-wind power project has been sped up. In October, 2012, the third phase of the Alataw Pass Wind Power Plant Project was approved for construction. This project site is in the west of Alataw Pass City, 300 to 600 meters above sea-level. 33 wind turbine generators with a unit capacity of 1, 500 kW were installed with a capacity of 49, 500 kW. Fourthly, the water supply engineering to benefit the people was put into use. On December 13, 2012, the Alataw Pass water supply and ecological construction project was completed and put into operation officially. The total length of the whole line of the project is 62km and mainly consists of water intake project, water pipeline project, water delivery tunnel engineering and Jiang Buss regulating reservoir project, with a total investment of 256 million Yuan.

The water intake of the project is located in the mountain exit of the Halatulung River, 40km away from Bole City. The storage capacity is 3.8 million m, with an annual water intake volume of 23.22 million m’. As a result, the drinking water quality of the residents in Alataw Pass has been greatly improved. Fifthly, financial service is faster and border settlement and offer of petty loans are more convenient and efficient.
