“Puzhu Vcham”of the Sakya Monastery is a major religious dance performed at the “Summer Vajradhara Festival”held in the 7th month of the Tibetan calendar. Aqiang Ngawang Kunga Renchen, the 22th Dharma of the Sakya Monastery, changed the original “Dorje Phurba sacrifice”Vcham into the exorcism ritual of “Yidang Dorje(Kidam Vajradhara)”of the temple, named “Puzhu Vcham.”

The performance of”Chi Vcham(sword dance)”

“Puzhu Vcham”comprises the first section “Practicing Bodhi”and the second section “Expelling Evil Spirit.”The first section starts with “Saixikuiningba,”with 150 dancers moving three rounds around the site, meaning leveling the ground. Then the Vajradhara come onto the stage, including white Yaksha with an iron hook, yellow Yajradhara with an iron chain, red Chilianmu tied with an iron chain and green Yama(Dharmapala of the monastery) with a religious bell, and they all dance beautifully. In the second section,”A Vcham(drum dance)”is performed in the morning and “Chi Vcham(sword dance)”follows in the afternoon.
