Qiucheng Ruins is located to the east side of the entrance to Huzhou Tai Lake Tourist Resorts covering an area of 30,000 square metres. It is regarded as one of three ancient cities(Wucheng, Pengcheng, and Qiucheng date back as far as 5,000 to 6,000 years). They were established by Wu State during the Spring and Autumn Period. The Ruins of Qiucheng contains the three Neolithic ruins on the east, on the south and on the southwest of the site. In 1963, it was ranked as a provincial level protection of cultural relics in Zhejiang. The ruins can be divided into three layers. The lower layer belongs to Majiabang Culture, and the middle layer belongs to Songze Culture. The upper layer of the ruins dates back to about 2,500 years ago.A lot of stone implements, jade articles and earthenwares have been unearthed.

A saying goes that He Lyu, the king of Wu State during the Spring and Autumn Period, once kept military goods and trained armies on hills nearby.

The ancient Qiucheng City was built along with the terrain of hills.

The ancient city was composed of southern district and northern district linked by city walls in loess. Each of them had a wall with 1.5 kilometres in circumference. Because of the higher terrain, the northern part of Qiucheng is generally kept better than the other parts, and the eastern section of the city wall is preserved best. Now the remains of rectangular perimeter, about 800 meters walls and 11 gates can be still found, but the north area becomes the plantations of trees.A paper mill occupies the southern area.

With the development of tourism,a stone tablet with the name of this ruins has been set up at the northeast of the ancient site, and a memorial wall-gate was built up years ago at the main entrance to Huzhou Tai Lake Tourist Resorts.
