Sanju rock Painting
1 min readThe Sanju rock painting is located on the rocks on the east coast of the Sanju river in Wuerqi village, Sanju Town, Pishan County of today’s Khotan area, 180km away from Khotan City and over 1l0km away from Pishan County. The rock painting is directly facing towards the beach the paint isabout 3. 3m long and about 1.3m high, and the figures mainly include peopleand animal reflecting the ancient husbandry and hunting life.
The height ofthe large human figures is 27cm and the width is 20cm; for the large animal figures the height is 20cm and the width is 23cm Symbols like characters are written on the left top of the painting, and the painting is formed by knocking and carving the rock with hard objects. the human and animal figures are vivid and the lines are primitively simple the style is primitive. Some scholarsthink that the rock painting belongs to the period of the primitive clan society Now, it is a region-level key cultural relic protection unit in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous region.
In addition, some other rock paintings are retained in valleys and on rocks on the river banks in Pishan County.
