Sayram Lake in Xinjiang
2 min readSayram Lake was once called”Milk Sea”.The Qing Dynasty set the Santai in the east coast of the lake.so it is also known as Santai haizi It is located in the western Tianshan Mountains 93km away from Bole City, and the Wuyi road passes this region along the lakeshore The lake is 30km long from east to west.and 27km wide from north to south with a water area of 458km.The deepest area is 91m deep the total water storage is 21 billion m,and the altitude of the lake surface is 2,073m;it is the highest and largest alpine lake in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and renowned in China and foreign countries for its amazing beauty and charming scenery.
Sayram Lake is surrounded by mountains. The climate is fairly mild in winter and rather cool in summer, and the scenery is quite pleasing. In winter,it is covered with ice and snow and the slightly oval-shaped lake, embedded among the ice and snow fields is just like a huge crystal-clear jadeite on a piece of soft and white silk floss. In summer, the forests beside the lake are lush and the streams are clear, and the grass and flowers all grow luxuriantly;on the vast grassland, yurts scatter here and there with smoke curling up,cattle and sheep are everywhere, and horses run freely, forming a rough and profound pasture landscape painting. And the groups of swans, geese and wild ducks playing on the sparkling waves add more intangible delicate and idyllic conception to this beautiful picture.
Throughout ages, many refined scholars have made a large number of vivid descriptions of the Sayram Lake In 1221 AD,Qiuchuji wrote in the Journey to the West of Immortal Changchun:”The big pond is surrounded by snow-capped mountains with an area of one hundred square kilometers, and the mountains are reflected in the pond, which is named Tianchi. “Hong Liang ji in the middle period of the Qing dynasty regarded Sayram Lake in his Jinghaizan as: “The fantastic scenery in the west, and the spirit soil beyond the noisy world.
In January 2004, Sayram Lake was listed as the National Key Scenic Spot by the State Council.
