Guangxi’s science and technology development is speeding up. In 2009, the regional government sponsored 1, 162 scientific research and technological development programs with a total investment of 24 million yuan. The government also organized the implementation of 2, 310 innovation projects, funding 205 million vuan for technological research and development and 22 million for natural science and youth science development. A total of 590 scientific and technological achievements were registered above provincial and ministerial levels and 141 programs were granted the Guangxi Science and Technology Achievement Award. The number of patent applications reached4,277,and2,702 2 were granted. There were also 290 technology contracts signed within the year, generating turnover in excess of 176 million yuan.
