Science and Technology in the Republic of China and the People’s Republic of China
1 min readIn 1911,the Xinhai Revolution broke out.The Republic of China replaced the Qing Dynasty, and modern technology was imported to China on a larger scale. But China was hindered in developing its basic science and technology because of civil wars and the Anti-Japanese War.
In 1949,the People’s Republic of China was founded. In the 1950s,China massively imported technology from the Soviet Union and established its technology system and basic industry. However, its industry, which lacked rational co-operation with research institutes and universities, did not achieve the ability to create varied advanced techniques, and thus its technology basically remained at the stage where it merely copied foreign products.
In the 1960sand 1970s,China could not make use of the latest achievements of other countries to improve its technology because its link with developed countries was cut by contrasting ideologies.Since 1979,the government has been trying to set up a new system to combine the creative power ofengineers, technicians, researchers and scientists with imported science and technology, which is a basic means toward national revival. The great development in all aspects of Chinese society in the recent decades is attributed to this policy.
