The regional government macro-coordinates- the basic oldage- insurance for urban enterprise workers, while the coordination of unemployment and industrial injury insurances lies with the city-level governments. The basic medical insurance for urban employees has been brought under pilot operation at the city level, and basic medical insurance for urban residents has been comprehensively rolled out in line with the basic medical insurance for urban workers. In rural areas, the new type rural social endowment insurance system has also been launched. By October 2009, the number of urban workers participating in the basic old-age insurance, unemployment insurance, basic medical insurance, industrial injury insurance and maternity insurance reached 4,035,700,2,354,100,7,590,000,2,162,200and1,947,900, respectively.The community-based management of enterprise retirees has made positive progress, with a retiree participation rate of 78.1%.
