St.Sophia Church
1 min readSt.Sophia Church is of 53.3 meters(175 ft)tall,covering an area of 721 square meters(0.18 acres).It has a long history and goes through several reconstructions.The church was first built by the Russian with timber in March,
1907.Then,4 years later,it was rebuilt by the Russian with masonry and timber.
The church was expanded and renovated from September 23,1923,to November 25,1932.
In 1997,it was repaired by the Harbin government and was renamed as Harbin Art Gallery.Because the original murals were lost totally,new murals showing the architectural history of the city were repainted on.Also,the pendent lamps,dome and the bell tower are restored to their former splendor.Nowadays,the church has become a famous landmark of Harbin and also a popular attraction.
