Born in Pingyang,Zhejiang Province,Su Buqing(1902-2003)is a distinguished modern mathematician in China.His researches and achievements are of great value and he was given the National Scientific Conference Award in 1978 and the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award in 1985.
Su Buqing had a high aspiration when he was a little boy.He went to Japan for further study after he graduated from middle school.In 1931,he received his Ph.D.in Tohoku Imperial University in Japan.During his study at Tohoku Imperial University,he made a breakthrough in geometry research and was retained by his professors and friends.However,Su Buqing returned to China resolutely and began to work in the Department of Mathematics of Zhejiang University.
In 1952,he started to teach at Fudan University.Though the living conditions for Su Buqing were not good at that time,he still worked hard and educated many excellent scientists.In 1955,he became a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
