In Xin jiang, the sunshine duration of the whole year is relatively long; the sunshine percentage is 60%-80%, and the days with sunlight more than 6 hours are 250-325 days annual total sunlight hours up to 2, 600-3, 400 hours, and the annual sun radiation quantity 5,500-6,600 MJ/m², ranked the second all over the country.
The sunshine of Xinjiang is strong. The distribution pattern of annual sunshine hours is that, it reduces from the north to the south gradually, with 3, 001 hours of Altai and 2, 574 hours of pishan increases from the west to the east with 2.828 hours of huocheng and 3549 hours of Xingxingxia; from plains to mountains, reduces in Northern Xinjiang and increases in Southern Xinjiang with the reason that in Northern Xinjiang there are much more cloudy and rainy days while in Southern Xin jiang, the plains have more floating dust and sandstorm. The overall annual radiation quantity in Xinjiang gradually reduces with the rise of latitude from the southeast to the northwest The maximum of overall radiation quantity occurs in Kumul, while minimum occurs in the area of Wusu, Jinghe and Karamay in Northern Xinjiang which is related to the quantity of sandstorm. In the area of Hotan inthe southwestern corner of Tarim Basin, because the time with sand and dust flying is long, the overall sun radiation quantity is relatively small.
The number of days of frost-free period is one of the significant heat indexes. The distribution pattern is that, in the area along Tianshan Mountains of Northern Xin jiang and li Valley district. the number of days is 160-200. in Altai district 116-156 in Qinghe onl 116 and in Barkol 113; in most areas in Southern Xinjiang it is 200-236 days, in Turpan, Artux and Hotan more than 230 days and in Taxkorgan only 122 days.
