The overall experience of the hot springs spas is what is being marketed today, not just the water. While also in Dalian I visited several hotels in one of the burgeoning hot springs towns outside of the city and was shown styles and tastes to fit every visitor. For example, being only a short distance from Japan and with Japan having a better known hot springs industry, many of the hotels in Dalian have adopted a Japanese style to their establishments.

Many are even fully developed and managed by Japanese companies mixing modern Japanese style with traditional Japanese hot spring style to create unique hotels and boutique resorts.

In Liaoyang, the Tanghe Hot Spring Hotel stands as a shining example of creating something for everyone. This fully encompassing resort is one of the biggest in the area and boasts private villas with personal indoor hot springs. Currently the company is building apartments for purchase based on the same design including the same amenities availablein the rental villas. The idea of a home away from home is great, but now you can just go ahead and buy your home here and never have to leave.

Another hotel in Dalian has gone so far as to bring a large bit of the past back to life in the form of an ancient Anhui-style scholar’s home as part of the facilities available for the guests to use. The open courtyard with sitting rooms, tea rooms and calligraphy rooms could easily double as a museum or as a set for a big budget movie. The idea is that to be successful the hotel needs to offer more than just hot springs to their guests. Coming on vacation is an escape and creating a world where the guests can enjoy themselves as they could nowhere else is a growing trend in luxury hotels in this part of China.
