The Tangsteel Water Treatment Center is the largest energy saving and emission reduction project invested by Tangsteel. It is also the largest center for pretreatment of urban reclaimed water and industrial waste-water. When it was put into operation, Tangsteel became China’s first super iron and steel enterprise to use urban reclaimed water as the only water source for production.
With a total investment of RMB 326 million, the project was launched on April 1,2009, and put into operation on October 17. The center uses world-class patented water treatment technique by Edgemont,a French company. It has an urban reclaimed water and industrial waste-water treatment system and an advanced waste-water treatment system, each with a capacity of 3,000 m3/h.

The center enables Tangsteel to stop using deep well water and realize comprehensive treatment and recycling of industrial water used by the plants of Tangsteel. Each year, consumption of new water can be reduced by 17.52 million tons, while the water recycling rate can reach97%, with zero industrial waste-water discharge. The index of suspended matters in purified water has been reduced from 20 mg/1to about 10 mg/1. In addition, the center produces high-quality softened water and demineralized water, and thus fulfilled the targets for external supply of 4200 m3/h of purified water,1000 m3/h of softened water and 300 m3/h of demineralized water to meet the requirements of Tangsteel for different kinds of water.
