Taoist Philosophy
1 min readTaoist Philosophy, though not elevated to an official philosophy as Confucianism once was, still played an important role in the long history of China. It originated from a group of hermits who escaped to distant hills from society, which they considered to be extremely corrupt. Some of these hermits developed their own philosophy of life. One of the most famous was Yang Zhu who lived between the times of Mo Zi and Mencius in the Warring States Period, whose life was not clearly recorded. He developed a doctrine of”despising matter and valuing life”” in order to escape from the corrupt society and preserve his life, virtue and integrity.
But the two most important figures of the classical Taoist philosophy were Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi.And Taoist philosophy enjoyed a revival labeled Neo-Taoism in the 3rd century.
