Tashilhunpo Monastery
1 min readThe monastery was founded in 1447 by Gedun Drub,the nephew and disciple of the famous Buddhist philosopher Je Tsongkhapa and later named the First Dalai Lama.Theconstruction was financed by donations from local nobles.In Tibetan,the meaning of Tashilhunpo Monastery is luck,and it’s considered to be the biggest temple in Xigaze region of Tibet.At the same time,it is also one of the Tibet’s four great temples as well as one of the six most famous temples of Huang Religion.The bodies and souls of Panchen Lamas of past generations are placed here,and there are 57 scripture halls and 3,600 rooms in the temple.
Location
Tashilhunpo Monastery is located on the southern slope of the Nyima Mountain to the west of the Shigatse.
