THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE RELIGIOUS DANCE
1 min readBefore the 8th century, the dance was mainly “Gar Vcham”-the folk animal-simulating dance at worship ceremonies during Bon religion period. The folk religious dances were absorbed by Padma Sambhava to create the”Duojiga Vcham(Vajradhara dance)”performed at the foundation stone laying ceremony and the opening ceremony of the Samye Monastery, which was the religious dance of Tibetan Buddhist monastery and has been passed on to this day. The religious dance in the Tibetan Buddhist monasteries differed from that of the Bon religious temples and had its own unique style.
The performance of”Duojiga Vcham(Vajradhara dance)”
The religious dance was later taken from the monasteries to the secular and the worldly people, who imitated the religious dance “Vcham” and formed “Mina Vcham.”
