The Evergreen Garden
4 min readThe Evergreen Garden is located in an impoldered area on the north side of Binhai Avenue of Haikou City，with the well-known Qiongzhou Strait to the north，the Financial and Commercial District to the south，the Haikou Gymnasium to the east and the Auditorium of the People and Government Office Buildings of Haikou City to the west.The garden covers an area of 83 hectares and it is the largest comprehensive and gardening tropical seashore ecological garden in Haikou City for citizens to enjoy all kinds of activities，including running，walking，playing Taiji and Kong Fu and so on during their leisure time.
The Evergreen Garden started to be built in 1994.After two years，theEvergreen Garden opened to the public on January 3rd，1996.The garden remains a historical memorial for our descents.
There are many people taking part in building the garden，including many officials working in Hainan Province Government，the local people and overseas immigrants.They all did as volunteers or donated money.During more than one year，we refilled 7，000，000 m3，carpeted 400，000 square meters of grass and 10，000 square meters of flowers，and planted thousands of tropical trees.Most of them are coconut palms，banyans，etc.The garden is a gorgeous beauty.And the original desolate sands come into the Evergreen Garden.The donations from all the society and industries achieved RMB 10 million Yuan.The”WAN “character，in Chinese culture，represents a kind of spirit that all people hold one same belief and do their best to achieve one goal.The Evergreen Garden stands for the spirit，and it passes from generation to generation.In the spring of 1997，in order to push forward the administration and construction of the Evergreen Garden，the administrative department of the garden began to promote the idea of the virescence and beautification of the coconut city.The whole garden was divided into 3 sections:the forest for honoured guests to plant trees，the forest for social organizations to plant trees，and the forest for citizens to plant trees.Now in the garden，you can find the coconut palms，cypress and banyans planted by the high-ranking leaders from our country and other countries.There is a banyan with a diameter of 1.6 meters planted by seven citizens from Haikou City and it has been the biggest tree in this Evergreen Garden up till now.There are several thousand kinds of tropical plants planted by various departments and organizations in Haikou City.Sincethe opening day，all people have done their best to make the Evergreen Garden greener and greener.There are numerous sorts of trees like birthday trees marriage trees，adult trees，tourist trees and so forth.The Evergreen Garden has been a monument with the reflection of the love for nature and proximity of the nature from thousands of people at home and from all over the world.In the garden，nature environment and man-made living condition reaches some kind of harmony.The garden pictures a paradise on earth-the blue sea presenting ahead shiningly，the skyscrapers standing highly，and blue sea，green water and white houses integrating perfectly.There are bridges，running water，music waterfall，man-made hills，weird stones and long winding roads with pavilions standing by.The Evergreen Garden is totally a great place for relaxing，exercising，entertaining and view seeing.In daytime，here people can do exercises, playing football and running in order to get a better fitting. In addition, you can fly kites with families or friends, throwing away the busy and piffling stress and irritations, and get the relaxations and happiness. Every morning, on the grass or through trees, people shower in the cool wind with the smell of coconuts, and breast the fresh air. The senior are playing Taiji steadily, freely and smoothly as if they were one object with the actions. The young are jumping, running, andshowing their emotions of youth. Absolutely, you can take photos as souvenir on the more than 40,000 square meters of viewing grassland, located on the west of parking lot. The typical Haikou building images plays as background of your photos. Otherwise, you can enjoy a walking on the roads with various flowers aside to the beach. To the north, you can see the famous Century Bridge. When evening comes, the Evergreen Garden is filled with different families, groups of friends for cooling, drinking tea and relaxing.
If we take Haikou as a beautiful girl, the Evergreen Garden is a bamboo basket on the gir’s arm, filled with our expectations of better living conditions. We should protect our environment and cherish it like what we do to our life. The Evergreen Garden is not only a symbol of eco-tourist destination of Haikou, but also we could learn how to protect the environment and to protect our homeland-the earth. Only by doing so will we have more and more gardens like the Evergreen Garden and have fun with our earth.
