2 min readBeijing Institute of Technology, Zhuhai(BITZH) small aeroplane perched in front of the Tianyou Building sets the”masculine” keynote of the Zhuhai division of BIT. The university is one of the country’s few higher education institutions that has well-estab- School of Aeronautics. The school produces an elite group of 50 pilots each year, much to the jealousy of those who will not have a chance to see their pilot dream come true.
The dominating science and engineering style of the Zhuhai division of BIT can be savored in its “metallic” school facilities that may thwart the faint-hearted One of the most striking-and formidable-is the school’s outdoor training range, where the girls do not have a chance to escape the devilish training on the “deadly slope”and rock-climbing classes.
The school’s imposing Ming De Building, sitting on the slope of a hill and overlooking Ming De Lake, looks like a tribute paid to Stanley Kubrick, and wouldn’t look out of place in 2001: A Space Odyssey. With enormous white pillars, the structure is a breath-taking mix of straight lines, smooth white surfaces and endless matrixes. Glistening in the fierce sun of southern China, the chic, neat structure is a strong reminder of the charming “tech-savvy”texture of BIT.
The school’s “softness”hiding underneath the”hardness” of the facade takes a little exploration. The “love confession” posts on the school’s “BIT (Zhuhai)love board”on WeChat will surely redress one’s “science geeks”preconception.
