“Tibet” comes from “Stod-bod”, which was the old name before the Ming Dynasty.The Tibet region was called “Dbus-Gtsang” in the Yuan and Ming dynasties. “Dbus” means “centre” in the Tibetan language,and“Gtsang means“holiness”. As situated in the west of China, it is called “Xizang” (which means “Western Zang”) in Chinese.The Tibet Autonomous Region was established in 1965 with the abbreviation of “”(Zang).
