Tourism of Jingdezhen

Jingdezhen, the world-renowned porcelain metropolis, is one of China’s first batch of 24 historic and cultural cities proclaimed by the State Council of China. It has a porcelain making history of over 1700 years, which has been crystallized into its rich cultural tradition of ceramics. Rare ceramic relics, superb ceramic craftsmanship, unique ceramic customs, graceful performance of ceramic musical instruments and beautiful rural sceneries make up the peculiar tourism culture of Jingdezhen, and hence make Jingdezhen China’s only tourism city featuring ceramic culture. In 1997, Jingdezhen was conferred one of China’s 35 first-choice tourist spots to foreigners by State Tourism Bureau.

With 20 year’s continuous efforts, Jingdezhen’s tourism has taken shape and acomplete tourist service system has been established, covering board, lodging, transportation, sightseeing, shopping and entertainment. Many scenic spots are already open to tourists, including Hill Kaolin -the birthplace of Kaolin, Dragon Pearl Pavilion, the Imperial Ceramic Kiln Relics of the Ming and Qing Dynasties Guyao Ceramic Workshop-a “living museum”demonstrating the complete traditional porcelain making process, Mingqing Park-a ceramic historical museum of a collective reservation of folk architectural complexes of the Ming and 0ing Dynasties, Jingdezhen Ceramic Museum where Jingdezhen’s ceramic masterpieces since the Five Dynasties are collected and displayed, Jingdezhen Ceramic Archaeological Institute where the latest archaeological findings are exhibited, and so on. All these scenic spots provide tourists interested in ceramics a variety of tour programs capable of beauty appreciation, recreation, participation and instruction.

Leping Tourist Zone includes such scenic spots as the Ancient Stage and Hongyuan Wonderland, which will show you the architecture of ancient stages, the cultural peculiarity in the local folk drama as well as an impressive karst landscape.

Jingdezhen boasts three national four-level scenic areas -Yaoli, the Ancient County Office and Jingdezhen Ceramic Historical Expo Zone, and a national demonstration spot of industrial tour-Jingdezhen Sculptural Ceramic Plant.

Located at mound of the beautiful Hill Maple in the west of Jingdezhen, Jingdezhen Ceramic Historical Expo Zone is made up of Ceramic Historical Museum and Ancient Kilns. Ceramic Buildings and Civilian Houses of the Ming and Qing Dynasties are the key cultural relics under protection of Jiangxi Province. It preserves the richest and most intact cultural relics in China，even in the world，such as cquaint architecture，archaic workshop，ancient craftsmanship and kiln，hoary ceramic customs and gardens，which become the epitome of Jingdezhen’s ceramic culture.

The exposition zone has a natural scenery conservation of 830，000 square meters.It is surrounded by hills，characterized by luxuriant forestry，poppling lakes，rows of ceramic workshops，and dotted with rare flowerbeds and emerald green bamboo groves.The harmonization of the natural scenery，the porcelain culture and theancient buildings makes it a world-famous tourist scenic spot with a distinct individuality.

With lofty hills and thick forest，Yaoli is enveloped by cloud and mist.It has been praised as”the birthplace of porcelain，the hometown of tea and the sea of forest”since ancient times.Ancient ancestral halls，classical front yards and civilian houses，the old-time official residence，quaint implements，ancient carving works，age-old county street…Here is a place of historic interest where you can search deep into ancient times and the seclusion；Nanshan Waterfall，Wanghu GreenBamboo，Meiling Pine Sea，Mount Wuhua，Limestone Caves and Tianhe valley…

Jingdezhen is located among“six mountains and two lakes”（Mount Hang，Mount Lu，Mount Sanqing，Mount Longhu，Mount Jiuhua，Mount Wuyi，Qiandao Lake and Poyang Lake），and is geographically advantageous as a tourist area.In addition，it affords convenience in transportation and the city boasts of a satisfactory variety of tourist service institutions:nine hotels above 3 star-rated and 16 travel agencies.
