Tourism of Shangrao

Shangrao is situated in the northeast of Jiangxi Province, bordering with Quzhou City in Zhejiang Province to the east, linking Huangshan City in Anhui Province to the north, neighboring to Nanping City in Fujian Province to the south. It has a variety of natural landscapes and a long cultural history; it is a classical zone of exotic scenery and rare precious tourism resources in China. It was granted as”China’s Top Tourism City”in January,2007.

Mount Sanqing, located in the northeast of Shangrao City, is a national scenic area,a national 4A-level tour zone and a national demonstration base of patrioticeducation. It has been evaluated as the World Nature Heritage. There are a thousand peaks competing in their beauty, ten thousand streams pouring into pools, ancienttrees growing thick with rare birds and animals flying and creeping among them.

Mount Sanqing is also a famous Taoist mountain, with more than 1600 years of history, where the ancient cultural heritage is preserved intact. Qin Mu,a famous modern prose writer, praised Mount Sanqing as”a hometown of clouds and mists,a painted corridor of pines and stones”.

Poyang Lake, the biggest fresh water lake in China, is enchased in the western part of Shangrao. For thousands of years, Poyang Lake has been nurturing the people in Jiangxi Province and attracting visitors at home and overseas with her charm.

Looking out over the vastness of Poyang Lake, with its blue waves that stretch to the horizon, is much like standing on the shore and looking out over an ocean. In daytime when the sun shines and the sky is clear and blue, the sky and the water of the lake seem to meet on the horizon. Sailboats on the lake dart back and forth.

Located in the northeast of Jiangxi and being close to Mount Huang and Jingdezhen, Wuyuan is the homeland of Zhu Xi and 2,600 officials with over 2000works of ancient times from the Song to Qing Dynasty. Its ancient architectural complexes, trees, caves and culture add radiance and beauty to its green mountain, blue water and rural sceneries. Wuyuan has become a cultural, ecological and tour demonstration center of the state; it is honored as “the Most Beautiful Countryside in China”by the media at home and abroad.

The graceful and charming Xinjiang River winds through the national scenic area-Guifeng Peak，which is in the middle of Shangrao and famous for its red sandstone landscape.Its magnificent and fantastic peaks and stones，luxuriant and evergreenforest seem more attractive against the river.The Guifeng Peak consists of three scenic areas:the Guifeng Scenic Area with”36 small peaks and 8 major scenic spots”；the huge rock sculpture cultural park with the Nanyan Temple-the first grotto in the South of the Yanguze River；the traditional cultural and educational area covers Fang Zhimin Memorial Hall，the Dieshan Academy and other cultural landscapes.

Shangrao’s scenery is pregnant with beauty and productive of talent，which gives birth to its glamorous cultural atmosphere.It has world-famous national patriotic educational base-Relics of Shangrao Concentration Camp and Fujian-Zhejiang-Jiangxi Revolutionary Base Area，the Immortal Cave-the earliest birthplaces of rice in the world，Relics of Ehu Academy，and so on.

There are 15 hotels above three-star level，including 2 four-star and 13 three-star.And it also has 31 travel agencies.According to the latest statistics stated by the Municipal Tourism Bureau，in 2006，Shangrao received 7.6 million domestic tourists with a total income of 4 billion yuan，increased by 32%and 25%respectively；it received 36 thousand foreign tourists with a total revenue of 9.84 million dollars，increased by 96%and 73%respectively.
