Solar radiation resource in Xinjiang ranks the second in China. The vast desert land resource, abundant quartz silica resource and the location advantage of opening to the west, all of which are in favor of building large solar power plants, improving the competitiveness of the photovoltaic industry, and building the photovoltaic industry base facing Central Asia and Western Asia.
Today, the construction of photovoltaic industry zones in Xinjiang is accelerating, and it has initially formed four major photovoltaic industry gathering areas of Urumqi, Shihezi, Alar, and Kuitun-Dushanzi. Driven by the polysilicon industry, the industrial cluster of “coal-electricity-silicon (silica sand, industrial silicon, silicon carbide, etc.)”in Hami, Kuitun, Ili, Altay, Tarim Basin, and Tianshan Northern Slope Economic Zone has developed rapidly. In Shihezi, Kuitun, Turpan, Bole, Alar, Hetian and other places, there were more than ten large enterprises and groups built photovoltaic power plants only in 2012.
