Wanquan Lake Tourism Zone
3 min readThe wide Wanquan Lake gathers the water of the Wanquan River and thousands of springs and streams that drift a long and arduous journey from mountains. There are numerous islets and special stones in the tourism area. In addition, on the lakeside are primitive tropical forestsand villages, lived by Li and Miao minority people for a prolonged period. There are many attractions surrounding the lake, and the most peculiar ones are the Special Rocks Group, Milk-Valley Waterfall, Faery Valley, Hundred Islets, Ten-Kilometer Valley and Faery Pond. With fresh air and pleasant climate, the lake tourism area is of enchanting beauty just like a natural oxygen bar.
Everyone, we have entered the beautiful sightseeing resort of the Faery Valley, which is one of the narrowest parts of Wanquan Lake. It has a movinglegend: Five thousand years ago, the Land God played an evil trick and movec a mountain to cut the river in the middle and blocked the flow. As a result, the fertile lands down the stream went dry and not a single grain was reaped. People were tortured with a raging hunger, so they offered sacrifice andprayed to the heavens to endue them with rain. When the Mother Queen knew about it, she sent the Tower Marshal to make an inspection into the matter. After finding out the truth that the Land God had blocked the Wanquan River, the Tower Marshal roared and stamped his foot heavily and split the mountain blocking the river into two. The water soon drifted downstream and saved the people, and the valley was called “Faery Valley”ever since.
Here we are at “Niulu Heaven Gate”. There is a gate on the peak of the high Thunder Mountain which is on the top of Niululing Mountain.People call it”Niulu Heaven Gate”.Let me introduce the origin of it to you！About a thousand years ago，this area was mountainous and wooded，which made it difficult for the local Li and Miao minority people to contact with the outside world.They had to choose cattle as their means of transportation to carrythings and climb across the high mountains to do business.So their chiefs directed the masses to keep digging the mountains to open a road in the spirit of the”The Foolish Old Man Who Removed the Mountains”.Finally，they dug through the mountains and created this road，which is called”Niulu Tianmen “by the descendants.
My friends，the marvelous Hundred Islets is not far ahead.Let’s row a boat to see the islets and enjoy ourselves！It is called”Hundred Islets”because ofthe islets are star-studded on the lake.See？Each islet has its peculiar shape.Some look like sea turtles，some look like swimming ducks，and some look like buffalos carrying children.Looking at the whole lake，don’t you feel your horizons are springing wide？
Please look up，everybody.This is the Milk-Valley Waterfall.It is located in the middle of the Special Rocks Group.Looking from afar，the water drifts from the top of the steep cliff and looks like a white Khatag hung in midair.The waterfall blazes with colorful lights as if it is a sacred gift for human from the nature.
Now we are at a place that is most worthy of visiting-the Special Rocks Group.It is a canyon in the upper reaches of the lake and may be，it says，one source of the Wanquan River.It is totally 3，000 meters in length，and the Clear Pond，Milk-Valley Meteorites，Natural Massage Pond，Love Stone Bridge，Yougu Yao’chi，etc，are along it.Aren’t you feeling like you are in the Land of ldyllic Beauty to tour along the valley？
Now we are slowly pulling into Faery Pond，which is the prettiest sight spot of the Ten-Kilometer Valley.It is said that in ancient times，two sons of Dragon King of the South China Sea，the Big Dragon and the Younger Dragon，traveled along the river here.They were immersed in the amazing scenery and reluctant to go home.Each of them griped a good place for a pond.Faery Pond is named for the two dragons.
