In 1978, Xinjiang transportation construction was started, the mileage at that time was only of 24,000 km, among which, the black asphalt road was only of 5,800 km, and other national and provincial roads were all gravel roads except for the asphalt roads of G312, 314. In the decade from 1988 to 1998, the traffic construction in Xinjiang entered take off stage. The total investment in the traffic construction reached billion Yuan that decade, which was 17 times of the previous decade.
Xinjiang transport has developed with leaps and bounds in the decade of western development from 1999, the total mileage has reached 147,000 km, secondary and higher roads have been extended to the capital cities of the 14 prefectures, and tertiary and higher roads have been extended to 88 counties. It was the period of the largest investment, the fastest development speed and the highest construction quality in the history of road construction in Xinjiang. Passenger cars, trucks, private cars running on the road, the bustling markets were also built along the roads agricultural and sideline products wholesale markets, livestock trading markets, passenger and freight transportation… Towns and villages are full of vigor and vitality In the year of 2010, the report of “the twelfth five-year development plan of transportation in Xinjiang”was the first to be submitted to the Ministry of Transport. Xinjiang people finished the work of two and a half years within half a year by eating for three hours, sleeping for five hours, and working for sixteen hours, and won the “first”with manliness for risking everything.
Therefore, 2010 has become the year of the largest infrastructure investment ever, with a geometric growth in the transportation construction projects of roads, railways, and airports.
In2011, Xinjiang determined the transportati construction development goals in the next five to ten years, which is strive to use five to ten years to make Xinjiang a major high-speed thoroughfare and a transportation hub in western China from the end of the national transportation network.

In 2011, 35.5 billion Yuan was invested in the transportation construction in Xinjiang.
Guozigou Bridge and other key projects were put into use, greatly supporting the transportation to international ports.
The year of 2012 was identified as the “the promotion year of transportation and people’s livelihood construction” by Xinjiang. 37.6 billion Yuan was invested in the transportation construction, with the major routes’ mileage of 3,235 km, the arterial highway construction mileage of 2,803 km. Four freeways: Phase II of Xingxingxia-Turpan, Dahuangshan-Qitai etc., and ten arterial highways: the reconstructions of the section in Xinjiang of Xinjiang-Tibet Highway, highway of ZhunDong big well mining area, etc. were constructed.
