Tenon Joint
Tenon joint is an ingenious way in China’s traditional wooden craft, which takes advantage of the yin and yang connection between components to make them linked together. Tenon joint has many forms, as shown in the fifi gure, “wedge nail tenon” basically combines two tenons to assemble together in the shape of palm, but the ends of two tenons extend small tips. When small tips enter into the groove, two tenons stick together and they can not move up or down. Since then, a square hole is chiseled in the middle of connection part, and a wedge nail with square cross-section, thick head and thin tail comes through so the two tenons cannot be pulled in the left and right directions. Two arc-shaped bend materials are closely connected in one. The Ming-style furniture sees no nail and glue, but adopts tenon joint to present a variety of different styles, which is very scientifific.
