1 min readYulin is located in the southeast of Guangxi, close to Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao. Covering an area of 12, 800 sq km, it consists of four counties, one( county-level-) city and two districts, and has population of6.41 million. With more than one million overseas Chinese, it is Guangxi’s largest area inhabited by returned overseas Chinese and relatives.
It was a prefecture for more than 2, 000 years. Yulin Prefecture was set up in the Han Dynasty. Many administrative changes followed. In April 1994, Yulin Prefecture was changed to Yulin City.
Yulin is one of the six cities involved in the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, and is also cross-Straits- agricultural cooperation pilot zone. Renowned as the South of the Wuling Mountains, it is an important collection and distribution center for goods in south China, and it attracts merchants in large numbers. There are many medium-and small-sized enterprises in Yunlin and industries based on regional resources have developed fast. Five major industries machinery manufacturing, cement and pottery, health foods, clothes and leather and electronic information) have taken shape. It is China’s’ largest production base of internal combustion engines, and one of the largest production and export bases of daily use ceramics.In addition, it is a national production and export base of building materials, a garments and leather base, and a food processing base.
